Podcast Guest: Matt Allex

Episode 82 – Purple Rain

, with special guest:

Purple RainFor our latest episode, we watched Purple Rain with our good friend and podcasting megastar, Matt Allex.  In spite of being from Minneapolis, Matt has somehow never seen the film and we were able to enjoy him trying to unpack everything that is going on.  For such an iconic film, it is surprisingly clunky whenever Prince and the Revolution are not on stage performing.  We talk about the dichotomy between what takes place on stage at First Avenue and what takes place off stage in the steam tunnels of Minneapolis.  We also talk about the differences between the venue of First Avenue as it exists and the venue of First Avenue as it appears in the film.

Our next movie will be A Hard Day’s Night!

Episode 12 – John Carpenter’s The Thing

, with special guest: ,

The ThingOnce again, we recorded live at Pepito’s Parkway Theatre in Minneapolis.  This time, we were joined by Matt Allex from the Horror Show Hot Dog.  We returned to the magical year of 1982 with Matt’s favorit movie: John Carpenter’s The Thing.  The print was absolutely phenomenal and the movie is one of the great horror films of all time.  We were joined by an enthusiastic audience for an ejoyable afternoon of death and nihilism.

Note: We had a few issues with the microphones when we were recording this episode so there are some lengthy silences.  Sorry about that!

Our next episode will be a very special Christmas episode where we watch just about the only Christmas movie Jena has never seen – Trading Places.
