Episode 125 – F for Fake

Our latest episode was a bit of a last minute audible as we lost a guest due to weather. So Tim became our guinea pig to watch F for Fake, a “documentary” about hoaxes by Orson Welles. This kind of wacky film takes a look at a few different fakers, including the filmmaker himself. It is very new wave and so very Orson Welles in every sense of the word. Probably the best way to enter the world of this film is knowing as little as possible.

Next up, we really do talk about The Princess Bride!

Episode 108 – Exit Through the Gift Shop

, with special guest:

Exit Through the Gift ShopWe promised you Goonies but we had a scheduling mix-up so this episode brings you Exit Through the Gift Shop instead! This documentary produced by acclaimed street artist Banksy starts out as a documentary about finding Banksy but then it turns into something quite different. Tim is our newbie for this one and he spends much of the episode talking about what people are willing to pay for art.  Like so many documentaries, what makes this one memorable is not the movie that they wanted to make but the movie that they stumbled into making.

Next up, we are going to watch High Noon!

Episode 69 – Grizzly Man

, with special guest:

Grizzly ManIt is time to dive into the works of Werner Herzog with the documentary film Grizzly Man!  Herzog tells the story of naturalist Timothy Treadwell who researched grizzly bears up until one of them decided he looked like a tasty morsel.  Using mostly Treadwell’s old footage, the film is less about his death than it is about the effect his obsession had on himself and those around him.  Pat Wick joins us as stunt Jena even though she has seen the film and Tim has not!

Since we watched one film by Herzog, how about another?  Our next film will be Fitzcarraldo!
