Django UnchainedSince there was only one other Quentin Tarantino film unseen by Jena, we knew we had to get to it as quickly as possible.  After showing her Jackie Brown a month ago, we took a look at Django Unchained for this episode.  Tarantino does another pastiche of Westerns, Blaxploitation and, because it is Tarantino, a little bit of almost everything else.  We hope you enjoy our conversation!

Our next movie will be a return to the world of Akira Kurosawa – Yojimbo!

Edge of TomorrowThis week’s episode is all about an under appreciated gem from 2014 – Edge of Tomorrow. The film is an extremely creative action movie that has the added benefit of being the perfect Tom Cruise movie for people who hate Tom Cruise!  Is the film the perfect combination of Groundhog Day and Aliens?  In all fairness, it doesn’t have a lot of competition.  If you really want to blow your mind, try to figure out all the possible things that could happen after the conclusion of the film!

Next up, we shall tackle the original Godzilla!

BirdmanAs has become an annual tradition, we sat down to watch the Academy Award winner for Best Picture of 2014, Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)!  We marveled at the amazing Cinematography and the unexpected score.  We had a thoughtful conversation about the meaning of the film’s ending.  In other words, we watched the movie and then we talked about it.  Which is sort of our thing!

The next film on our list is The Usual Suspects!

12 Years a SlaveIn what is becoming a tradition, we watched this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Picture, 12 Years a Slave!  In an unusual twist, Tim was the only host who had actually seen the film already.  The movie inspired a lot of discussion about slavery, the Oscars and, oddly, Gravity.  We hope you enjoy our annual trip to the Academy Awards!

ArgoWe don’t want to be accused of only watching old movies so for this episode, we focused on the 2012 Academy Award winner for Best Picture – Argo!  Not only has Jena never seen the movie, she has no first hand memories of the historical event upon which it was based! Not only does she get to learn about the movie, but she also gets to learn about something that happened.  Well…if you ignore all the stuff that isn’t actually true.
